Driven by a voice of shamanic clarity and luminescence, Emily Jane White’s militant folk oscillates, like our world, between the electronic layers of our technological age and the woody sensuality of her acoustic guitar. Like a connected white crow, her translucent timbre hovers with almost serene anxiety over the disasters of the Anthropocene, the melodies seeming to fall before picking up again every time on a blade of wind, a quivering spruce or a chickadee on a branch over the water. Patti Smith meets Mariee Sioux, Hope Sandoval or PJ Harvey in Emily Jane White’s simple and haunting arpeggios that sing of the coming metamorphosis of a land struggling towards the unity of all forces and spirits through her slow and tectonic singing. For Antigel she will perform as a duo for a performance that promises to be magnetic.
La Mansarde, Veyrier
With its high ceilings, wide windows offering a unique view of the Salève and its exposed concrete, La Mansarde inherited its name from the place created in 1985 by a dozen or so enthusiasts, artists or aficionados, who wanted to promote culture in all its forms in the town. Since November 2018, concrete and clear lines have replaced the period rafters on the top floor of the Rose School, but the spirit remains as lively and curious as ever. In its 180 m2 space it offers an eclectic programme of concerts, exhibitions, film screenings and other activities. A venue that remains up to date.
