A musical oddity, the Swiss power trio builds complex and chiselled architecture that mixes math rock, jazz and krautrock in progressive outbursts.
The surrealist trio from Lucerne with the tongue-twister moniker meticulously creates underlying structures based on repetitions and variations on a handful of superimposed themes to build skyscrapers of textured sounds and cinematic atmospheres. The fascinating cyclical arrangements incorporate bold riffs and rhythmic outbursts with truncated signatures into an industrial trip that redefines the boundaries of instrumental rock. An experimental amalgam of prog rock, math rock, minimalism and free improvisation, a sort of mix between Godspeed You! Black Emperor and the King Crimson of the 80s, distant cousins of Battles or Don Caballero in their devastating interactions between guitar, bass and drums, the trio shapes a cubist and unpredictable form of architecture with astounding dexterity, and opens up sublime new soundscapes that are both calm and thunderous.

Ateliers du Grand Théâtre, Verntissa, Vernier
A show would be nothing without lights, sets, props and costumes. Teams of craftspeople take turns in the shadows to showcase the artists and bring the works to life. The Grand Théâtre workshops are spread over three sites: Sainte-Clotilde, Michel-Simon and Verntissa. The latter’s factory is very discreet, far from the gold of Place de Neuve. Hidden behind the large oil tanks of Vernier, a stone’s throw from a disused former petrol station, this is where painters and decorators create the monumental sets required for the institution’s productions, in a space of more than 2,000 m2. Major work for great theatre.
